Position: Business Systems Analyst

Summary

This is a technical business systems analyst that independently works to facilitate the integration of Guidewire PolicyCenter with third party vendors utilizing their API’s.

Key Responsibilities:

Requirements Planning/Elicitation:

  • Lead the business analysis activities and documentation process for projects or initiatives, coordinate requirements-related work effort and identify project stakeholders.
  • Develop effective requirements communication plan, approach document, and traceability matrix to manage requirements process.
  • Leverage proven methods and elicitation techniques to engage stakeholders, and gather requirements essential to the success of the project.

Requirements Analysis & Documentation:

  • Diagram current and to-be states; perform gap analysis; perform impact analysis to identify stakeholders of potentially impacted departments and applications; and, conduct initial risk assessments including risk identification and risk impacts.
  • Define and describe the characteristics of an acceptable solution to a business problem, so the project team has a clear understanding of how to design and implement the solution.

Solution Assessment & Validation:

  • Validate requirements and assist with the selection, testing, and implementation of the final solution.
  • Manage sponsor and end-user expectations, yet ensure the delivery is feasible from the business perspective.

Enterprise Analysis:

  • Identifies opportunities, conducts competitive analyses, and prepares solution decision packages to help define optimum project investment paths.
  • Conducts feasibility studies, impact analyses, and risk assessments.
  • Initiates requirements scope and objectives, and coordinates analysis effort for strategic projects. Coordinates with the Business Architects) and Enterprise Architect to align business strategies and processes with IT strategic and architectural direction.
  • Works with business leaders to help identify and develop business processes that drive both LOB projects and process improvement initiatives. Initiates lessons learned activities to drive continuous process improvement.
  • Works with leadership team to help align various projects and initiatives with program level governance.
  • Understands the strategic direction of the enterprise and how new program initiatives fit into the long-term strategy of the organization.

Reporting and System Upgrades (as appropriate/needed by Bus Unit):

  • Responsible for the design and maintenance of management reports
  • Manage and coordinate system upgrades for the application business owner.

Minimum Experience/Education:

  • Experience working as an API Integration Business Analyst
  • Strong Guidewire PolicyCenter experience
  • A college degree is preferred or a High School Diploma and direct experience required.
  • 3-10 years of experience as a professional business analyst required: planning, eliciting, analyzing, validating, documenting, and communicating requirements for product or process related projects.
  • Must have an advanced understanding of business analysis terminology with regard to requirements tasks, techniques, and documentation.
  • Knowledge of insurance terminology, databases, and the ability to develop data extracts is beneficial, but not required.
  • Professional Business Analysis Certification (CBAP) and awareness of the International Institute of Business Analysis is beneficial, but not required.

Communication and Collaboration Skills:

  • Excellent writing skills (grammar/punctuation/information organization/formatting/presentation) to produce documents for internal IT and business customers.
  • Facilitates meetings and requirements elicitation sessions, including the preparation, presentation, and post-session follow-up.
  • Builds relationships, negotiate, resolve conflict, facilitate meetings, and reach decisions.
  • Align business analysis activities on strategic projects, programs, and initiatives.

Problem Solving:

  • Identifies business problems, assess proposed solutions to those problems, and understand the needs of stakeholders.
  • Understands and can work across multiple departments and/or lines of business, to help align various projects and initiatives with program level governance.
  • Understands the strategic direction of the enterprise and how new program initiatives fit into the long-term strategy of the organization.
