We are seeking a Manual QA Tester to join our Mainframe Engineering team and support major project initiatives across a complex enterprise environment. The ideal candidate will have strong hands?on experience testing mainframe applications and integrations, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate closely with developers, product teams, and business stakeholders to ensure high?quality, reliable software delivery. This role will participate in Agile ceremonies and work as part of a larger cross?functional team. Occasional on?call support during business and off?hours may be required.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, execute, and maintain detailed manual test cases and test scripts for mainframe-based solutions.
Validate functionality across COBOL, DB2, CICS, and JCL components in batch and online environments.
Perform functional, regression, integration, and system testing to ensure high-quality deliverables.
Analyze requirements, stories, and acceptance criteria to ensure adequate test coverage.
Document defects clearly and work closely with engineering teams to support root?cause analysis and retesting.
Participate actively in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, refinement, daily standups, and retrospectives.
Collaborate with product owners, developers, and business partners to clarify requirements and testing scope.
Required Skills & Experience
3–5+ years of hands?on experience as a Manual QA Tester within enterprise or mainframe environments.
Working knowledge of:
COBOL (ability to interpret program flow for testing)
DB2 (validation of queries, data accuracy, and backend testing)
CICS (front?end transaction testing)
JCL (ability to understand batch job flows and validate results)
Strong familiarity with Agile SDLC processes.
Exceptional analytical and problem?solving skills with high attention to detail.
Ability to document test results and defects in a clear, concise manner.
Excellent communication skills and comfort working within cross?functional teams.
Nice?to?Have Skills
Experience using test management and defect tracking tools (e.g., ALM, Jira, qTest).
Exposure to automation tools or frameworks, even at a basic level.
Familiarity with cloud-based environments such as Azure or AWS.
Background performing both independent testing work and collaborative team-based QA.
Ability to follow detailed instructions and adhere to process documentation and compliance standards.
