Junior Business Analyst Contractor
Location: Charlotte, NC
Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Junior Business Analyst Contractor to support business analysis, data management, reporting, and process improvement initiatives within a financial services environment. This entry-level opportunity is ideal for a recent college graduate with a strong academic background who is eager to learn and develop practical skills working across business and technology teams.
The successful candidate will assist with requirements documentation, data analysis, SQL queries, process mapping, testing, and reporting. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can take direction, work independently on assigned tasks, and communicate effectively with stakeholders while building a foundation in business analysis, project management, and financial services.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather, document, and maintain business requirements, process flows, workflows, and operational procedures.
- Conduct data analysis and research to support business initiatives and decision-making.
- Write basic SQL queries to retrieve, validate, and analyze data.
- Assist with data quality reviews, reconciliations, and investigation of data discrepancies.
- Support reporting, documentation, and presentation development using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Assist with user acceptance testing (UAT), test documentation, and defect tracking.
- Participate in business and technology meetings, documenting action items, decisions, and follow-up activities.
- Support project coordination activities, including tracking tasks, milestones, and deliverables.
- Help identify opportunities to improve business processes, data quality, and operational efficiency.
- Respond to ad hoc business and data analysis requests while managing assigned tasks and deadlines.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders and technical teams to understand requirements and support implementation efforts.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a related field.
- Recent college graduate or up to two years of relevant experience.
- Basic knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management.
- Ability to learn quickly, accept feedback, and apply direction effectively.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently on assigned tasks and collaborate within a team.
- Interest in business analysis, project management, data management, and financial services.
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework, academic projects, or practical experience involving Python, Java, data analysis, or software development.
- Exposure to business analysis techniques, requirements gathering, or process documentation.
- Familiarity with data visualization or reporting tools.
- Basic understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and software testing concepts.
- Internship, co-op, or project experience in technology, analytics, financial services, or business operations.
