Lead Mainframe Engineer, Solution Architecture
Location requirement for this role is Buffalo, NY, onsite 3 days a week.

Our banking client is modernizing its consumer lending mainframe application to a more agile and DevOps-driven environment. We need a hands-on Lead Mainframe Software Engineer with strong solution architecture and design expertise who can quickly grasp complex systems, practice SDLC in agile methodology and practice DevSecOps for deployment and continuous integration. Focus on innovation, design and test automation to drive efficiency and scalability. This is a Contract-to Hire position for a Vice President opportunity starting at the end of 6 months.

Responsibilities:

• 100% Hands-on Mainframe programming 
• End-to-end solution architecture and design
• Collaborate closely with business analysts to translate business requirements into technical solutions, breaking down complex processes and ensuring functional alignment.
• Solve complex problems with innovative, out-of-the-box solutions to modernize legacy systems and improve efficiency.
• Build strong partnerships across teams, ensuring clear communication, organization, and alignment throughout project phases.
• Provide guidance on designing, developing, testing, and deploying technology solutions.
• Work closely with domain leaders and enterprise architects to ensure solution designs align with business goals.
• Document application architecture and design patterns.

Requirements:

• 10+ years of mainframe engineering experience combined with 5+ years of mainframe solution design architecture experience
• Must have hands-on experience with mainframe tech stack (COBOL, CICS, VSAM, JCL, MQ, CA7, Xpeditor, ISPF) 
• Proficiency in leading end-to-end documentation of design and understanding of data flows across applications
• Excellent communication skills

 
Nice-to-Have:

• Banking/Consumer Lending background preferably with the Shaw application (used for loans and lines of credit).
• Modern IBM z development platform including: IDz, zDIH, ADDI, DBB and z/OS Connect
• Familiarity with DevOps tools, and practices, including Gitlab, automated testing, etc.
