Job Title: Sr. Segment Risk Manager – Commercial Credit Card
Job Summary:
Heitmeyer Consulting is currently seeking a Sr. Segment Risk Manager – Commercial Credit Card for a contract-to-hire opportunity with one of our financial services clients. This role sits in the first line of defense and is responsible for managing and strengthening the risk profile of the organization’s card portfolio, with a strong emphasis on commercial card products.

The commercial card business is undergoing significant transformation, including broad product and process changes. As a result, this role places a high priority on deep product understanding. The ideal candidate may come from a product management or commercial card background and will partner closely with business leaders to help build and mature risk frameworks, controls, and processes as the portfolio evolves. This position balances hands-on risk management with product strategy, enabling responsible growth while ensuring alignment with enterprise risk standards and regulatory expectations.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a first line risk partner supporting the card portfolio, including credit, debit, charge, and especially commercial card products and related initiatives.
  • Develop, implement, and enhance risk management practices aligned with enterprise frameworks, while helping build new risk and control structures to support the evolving commercial card business.
  • Quickly build a deep understanding of commercial card products, including product design, customer usage, pricing, rewards (if applicable), servicing models, and growth strategies.
  • Partner closely with card leadership, product teams, and segment risk leadership to support transformation efforts and ensure risk is appropriately embedded in product design and execution.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate end-to-end risks across the card lifecycle, including product development, marketing, underwriting, credit processes, servicing, and collections.
  • Design and strengthen controls and risk processes where gaps exist, particularly within commercial card credit processes and servicing operations.
  • Actively challenge business practices where product intent and execution diverge, and collaborate with stakeholders to implement practical solutions.
  • Support the establishment and monitoring of risk appetite, credit policies, exposure limits, and portfolio controls in partnership with credit risk teams.
  • Monitor portfolio performance indicators such as delinquency, losses, charge-offs, fraud trends, and macroeconomic impacts, and recommend actions as needed.
  • Collaborate with fraud, underwriting, servicing, and collections teams to enhance risk mitigation strategies and portfolio performance.
  • Lead or support root cause analyses, issue resolution, and remediation planning for risk events or control breakdowns.
  • Represent risk in product development, change management, and strategic growth initiatives, ensuring new or enhanced products align with risk expectations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 7 or more years of experience in card products, commercial card, payments, consumer lending, or risk management within financial services.
  • Strong understanding of commercial card products is highly preferred; product management or product development experience is strongly valued.
  • Experience in building or supporting risk and control frameworks, particularly within evolving or transformational environments.
  • Working knowledge of credit processes, servicing operations, and lifecycle management for card products.
  • Familiarity with card ecosystems, including network operations and, where applicable, rewards structures.
  • Understanding of U.S. banking regulations related to card products and electronic payments.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a first line role; candidates with strong product backgrounds and relevant exposure to risk will be considered.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity and drive practical solutions.
  • Ability to quickly assess complex products or portfolios and translate concepts into structured risk and control approaches.
  • Experience working in fast-paced environments with multiple priorities, particularly within transformation or build-phase initiatives.

Heitmeyer Consulting is an equal opportunity employer and we encourage all qualified candidates to apply. Qualified applicants will be considered without regard to minority status, gender, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
