Role Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Mainframe Architect / Delivery Lead to support a critical Debit Card Modernization initiative, transitioning from a homegrown processor to a Fiserv platform. This is a high-impact role requiring someone who can architect, code, and lead delivery simultaneously. The ideal candidate brings deep debit and Visa processing expertise, operates with strong ownership, and can immediately contribute without ramp-up.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize mainframe batch programs supporting debit card processing
  • Provide architectural leadership while actively contributing to development
  • Lead delivery for the mainframe workstream by:
    • Organizing tasks and priorities across teams
    • Driving execution and progress
    • Ensuring alignment with program timelines
  • Design and enhance batch processing workflows, improving stability in areas lacking maturity
  • Work on Visa-related processing components, leveraging domain expertise to accelerate delivery and reduce risk
  • Produce high-quality technical and design documentation
  • Support testing, validation, and issue resolution throughout the lifecycle

Required Qualifications

  • Strong mainframe development background (COBOL, JCL, VSAM, utilities)
  • Proven experience as a hands-on technical leader (not just architecture, but active development)
  • Deep batch processing expertise
  • Experience with distributed tools and environments (GitLab, Sonar, automated testing, Ansible, etc.)
  • Direct experience with:
    • Debit card processing systems
    • Visa processing ecosystem
  • Strong documentation discipline and comfort working within structured testing workflows
